Älgarnas Trädgård
Älgarnas Trädgård (Garden of the Elks) was a Swedish psychedelic progressive-rock band who recorded just two albums, Framtiden är ett Svävande Skepp, Förankrat i Forntiden ("The Future is a Floating Ship Anchored in Antiquity") and Delayed. The former album, the band's debut, is considered to be one of the pinnacles of the early '70s psych-rock boom and is slowly getting the recognition it deserves. One could consider it the sister album of the now quite famous Comus album, First Utterance.
Both a juxtaposition of contrasting styles (think Olivier Messiaen meets King Crimson) and a precursor to a number of bands including Japanese noiseniks Ghost, "Framtiden" is especially notable for its use of primitive sampling and remixing which, along with Can, is precedent for the whole genre of electronica. One fan wrote: "young amateur bastard-gods from a parallel universe swinging through the machinery of time, traversing non-historical oceans and weedgreen valleys with a cuckoo on each side. if music is human, this is not music. if music is irrational, this is the purest pure of pure music you can think of."
