스피카
(2012-2017)
SPICA (스피카) was a South Korean girl group under B2M Entertainment, composed of Kim Boa (leader), Park Sihyun, Park Narae, Yang Jiwon and Kim Bohyung. The group made their official debut in January 10th, 2012 with their digital single "독하게 (Potently)", followed closely by their first mini-album "러시안룰렛 (Russian Roulette)". Their first single sparked high interest, as label mate Lee Hyori (이효리) appeared in the music video.
At the beginning of 2012, B2M Entertainment formally announced SPICA to the public revealing the concept pictures and members.
Yang Jiwon was originally a member of 'Five Girls', a girl group featuring herself, After School member Uie, Secret member Hyosung, solo singer G.NA and Wonder Girls member Yubin. She was also close to debuting with girl group T-ara (티아라), only leaving the group shortly due to creative differences. Kim Boa was INFINITE's (인피니트) vocal trainer, maknae Kim Bo Hyung was originally going to debut in 2NE1, Park Narae was a contestant on the first season of Superstar K, and Park Sihyun has had several previous music ventures.
However, in February 2012, B2M officially announced the group would have their formal debut with a mini-album, titled "러시안룰렛 (Russian Roulette)". A music video teaser from the title track of the same name, was released on February 1, 2012 with the full being released several days later. They went on to make their debut on Music Bank and MBC's Music Core. Yet, the lyrics of "러시안룰렛 (Russian Roulette)" had to be modified in order to meet MBC's standards for broadcasting; as the lyrics might have been negatively interperated.
The group released a repackaged mini-album "Painkiller", on March 29, 2012, promoting the title track, "Painkiller".
They went on to release a total of three mini-albums (including the repackage), six digital singles, and three promotional singles, as well as a single by the subgroup 스피카.S, which included all members minus Kim Boa.
