Георги Минчев
Georgi Minchev (Георги Минчев,1943–2001) is a prominent Bulgarian rock musician.
His career begins in the early 60s when he is one of the founders of the first Bulgarian rock band - Bandaracite, (Бъндараците, 1962-1968) founded by the Milevi brothers, Dimiter “Bandaraka” and Ivan “Vacho”. Amongst the collaborators was Kiril Marichkov who, together with Minchev, is later to be one of the main musicians behind the rock band Shturcite (Щурците) or The Crickets in English. The influences on Banadarcite are artists like Cliff Richards, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley and Little Richard.
Georgi Michev plays in the band called "Сребърните гривни" (1968-1969) and in 1967, while still a student, he wins the big prize from the famous international contest The Golden Orpheus ("Златният Орфей") with the song "White Silence" Бяла тишина, which embraces the sounds of the classic rock and psychedelia with a delicate romantic touch and is considered a great melodic masterpiece in the Bulgarian music. The success is followed by songs like Снегът на спомена and Сребърни ята, which become huge hits on the Bulgarian radio stations.
In the 70s Minchev goes to Brussels, Belgium where he studies Directing for Cinema and Television.
His debut album comes up in the 80s and is called The Bulgarian Rock, with the hits Урок по рок, Почти полунощ, Есен в Созопол, etc.
He issues the albums Rock and Roll Veterans ("Рокендрол ветерани") (1989), Balance-Sheet ("Равносметка") (1995), and White Silence (Бяла тишина) (1997).
In 1991, together with Petar Gyuselev, Minchev starts the band Стари Муцуни, whose emblematic song “Blissful years” Блажени години is a cover of a famous country tune.
Georgi Minchev passed away in 2001, he dedicated his guitar to Vassko the Patch Васко кръпката who brings it to the Jimmi Hendrix’s grave in Seattle. Васко кръпката launches the yearly rock festival called Flower for Gosho (Цвете за Гошо) in the memory of Georgi Minchev. Read more on Last.fm.
