Aisha Kandisha's Jarring Effects
Aisha Kandisha's Jarring Effects (AKJE) are a band from Marrakesh that mixes Moroccan Sha'abi (literally: Folk) music with Western music, mainly dub. Their first album El Buya was one of the first to appear on the Barakat el Farnatshi label that was founded by AKJE-member Pat Jabbar. It has traditional Sha'abi instruments and song structures with heavy dub effects, scratching and the occasional sample (even Gregorian chanting). Their second album, Shabeesation was co-produced with and featured Bill Laswell and Omar Ben Hassan of the Last Poets. It leans much more heavily on dub/electro. Read more on Last.fm.
