Al Tourettes
Al Tourettes, known to his Mum & Dad as Alec Storey, has been playing drums since he was 9. His father is also a musician, & he started DJ’ing when he was 15, writing music on an Atari 2 years later. He studied Creative Music Technology at Bath Spa University from 2002 - 2005 - incidentally the same course as Appleblim, Gatekeeper and Wedge. Alec had his first release in 2006 on Growth Recordings, with subsequent releases on Birmingham’s KracktroniK Records and Sweden’s Input Output Recordings as well as remixes for Lukes Anger's Bonus Round Records. In Spring 2008 Al met Appleblim, and became interested in the Dubstep/ Techno crossover. They collaborated on a remix of Hector & Bryants ‘Tension’ for Phonica Records debut vinyl release in Spring 2009. In Autumn 2009 he released ‘Dodgem’ on Apple Pips Recordings and followed it with a storming exclusive mix for Mary Anne Hobbs world renowned BBC Radio 1 show. Al collaborated again with Appleblim on a remix of Planetary Assault System’s ‘X Speaks to X’ for Berlin’s OstGut Ton, the in-house label of the legendary Berghain / Panoramabar club, released in October 2009. He is currently working on a number of solo projects with forthcoming releases on Apple Pips and Wedge’s new Bristol-based label ‘If Symptoms Persist’, and is also working on a remix of a new Underworld track with Appleblim, scheduled for release in Spring 2010. When playing live, Al uses Ableton and several controllers as well as electronic drum pads, drawing from his previous experience as a drummer. Al's music has been described as "intricate", "deep", "driving" and "darkly-tinted" with many influences from Electro-Funk and Techno, to Dubstep and Bass music in general. Read more on Last.fm.
