This story is actually strange to some people.
I went to Jamaica last year October 2006 to Record new songs and to do a few Stage Shows until January 2007. So when I got there I did record a few songs and had plenty more to Record. But half into my long trip something happen to me, I got saved. I went to visit my parents and I don't know what came over me but I start to reflect on my life and all the things that I've done, all the things that have happen to me and I didn't want to end up in certain situations every again in my life. So that's how it happen, just visiting my parents and reflecting, so i'm happy that's how it happen. For some it happen to them at their lowest point in their life, but for me it happen at a moment when things was good. So I cut my vacation short and return to New York in December of 2006 with only a week and half left in the year. In that week and a half I got Married to the woman in my life, sometime you need that push in your life to make moves & My trip to Jamaica was a blessing. In March of 2007 I finally got Baptized. I can't wait to see the fruits from my new Career.
Chuck Turner first entered the music industry at the tender age of 11, (1974) as a freelance drummer playing with various bands. From age 11 to 24 ('74-'87) he worked with several recording studios, Tuff Gong, Dynamic Sounds, and Channel One, to name a few, drumming for artists as they recorded. The first band Turner played with was Black Culture. He also played in hotels with the Zenith Band, and appeared on many stage shows as a drummer with the Zenith Band including Reggae Sunsplash in '84.
Playing at the Sea Wind Hotel with a band called The Tony D'Costa Affair, Turner was given the chance to sing Reggae, R&B, Soul and Jazz, being coached by D'Costa himself. His greatest inspirations come from drummer Sly Dunbar, Reggae great Dennis Brown, the talented American artist Stevie Wonder, and Tony D'Costa. During this period he began to sing with Sound Systems such as King Jammy$, Stereo Mar and Stereo One. This encouraged him to continue singing and songwriting.
Turner's first release on vinyl came in 1983, and then again in '85 for producer Top Ranking. King Jammy$ recorded him in 1987, producing Turner's first hit song "I Need You", which was followed by hit after hit, including "Run Around Girl" and "Tears". He has three albums to his credit between 1987 and '89, "One The Hard Way" for King Jammy$, "Presenting Chuck Turner" for Trump Jack and "Them Trying To Conquer I" for Crat Productions. His newest single Tribulations is slated for release soon
Touring as a singer, Turner has performed on stage shows and in dances in London , Canada , Jamaica and the U.S. ( New York , Florida , Connecticut , Texas , Georgia, New Jersey , etc.) Some of the entertainers he's worked with are: Lt. Stitchie, Charlie Chaplin, Josey Wales, Leroy Smart, Courtney Melody, Sugar Minott, Admiral Bailey, Frankie Paul, Super Cat, Shabba Ranks, and a host of others. Chuck Turner has also appeared on stage shows in Jamaica with several American artists including Chaka Kahn, New Edition, Ronnie Dyson and Johnny Gill.
As a songwriter and BMI affiliate, he has many titles to his credit, including: Youthman Struggling, Young Girl, Raggamuffin, Be My Lover, Vanity, Them Trying To Conquer I, Forever Girl, Love Me Or Leave Me, Come Rock With Me, Run Around Girl, We Rule, and many more.
At the peak of a most promising career, 1989 proved to be a very trying year for this artist with two mishaps nearly taking his life both times. It has taken him many years to fully recover from what most would have never, but not to be discouraged he once more has returned to his first love which is music.
Here is an artist with a one of a kind voice, who must be given the chance to prove that singing and songwriting is his destiny, not only with Reggae, but in the R&B and Soul market as well. Admired by men and women alike for his cotton candy voice, smooth style, and originality, anyone hearing him sing cannot deny that he is a great artist. Moreover, there are bigger and better things to come from Chuck Turner. Comfortable on stage as well as in the studio, he continues to do what he knows best which is singing and writing. He has a gift from God that he would like to share with the world, so massives open your ears and listen.
