Crackhaus
Having originally met in 1999, Stephen Beaupre and Scott Monteith have been involved in various creative projects, begining the same year with the development of the (now defunct) Covert Ops multimedia collective, which engaged in various event/installation projects in and around the Montreal area, focusing on real time audio and video performance, and the development of new interfaces merging these two mediums.
Inspired by the micro sampling work of fellow Montrealer Akufen (Marc Leclair), and international luminaries such as Matthew Herbert, Monteith and Beaupre began the Crackhaus project in the interest of further exploring the use of unconventional sound sources (found sounds) within the confines of traditional house and techno, and to inject their increasingly grown up lives with some much needed child like fun.
The Crackhaus project made its debut as part of the 'Montreal Smoked Meat' CD compilation, released on Force Inc Music Works in March 2002. In 2003, they released their first album on Onitor Records, and in 2004 came their follow-up on Mutek_Rec.
