Cyclist
Cyclist is the solo moniker for Winnipeg based musician/producer Mark Penner. After spending most of his life making dance music in bands such as Moses Mayes and LeBeato, Mark started producing his own tracks and DJing in 2009. Cyclist's music is influenced by the early 80's era of underground dance music, when proto-house and electro were rising from the ashes of disco. Updating this sound with modern production techniques and adding live guitar, bass and analog synths makes Cyclist's music fresh and infectious.
His debut EP, "Double Dip", was released in Aug/2010 on his own label Dublum Records and reached in the top 20 on the national college charts and was in the top 10 of the electronic charts for a staggering 14 weeks. This gained the attention of Homebreakin' Records (Vancouver/Calgary) who are re-releasing the EP in May/2011 with remixes by Neighbour, Hemingway, Pat Lok and fellow winnipegger JNL.
After the original release of Double Dip, Cyclist developed a live set. Using Ableton Live as a foundation, Mark plays live guitar, bass and synth while performing originals and remixes of artists such as Chicken Lips, The C90s and Parallels. In the short 6 or 7 months he's been performing live, Cyclist has had support slots for U-Tern, Shout Out Out Out Out, Bonjay, DVAS, Neighbour, Woodhead and Sticky Buds as well as a 5 show tour opening for Dehli 2 Dublin in western Canada Read more on Last.fm.
