Dahlia
There are, as of this writing, six musical artists or groups with this name:
1) A female Japanese singer produced by YOSHIKI, one of Japan's top-selling producer/artists of all time (both with and without his seminal J-rock band X Japan. Dahlia was born in Hawaii, to an Okinawan father and an American mother. She lives in Los Angeles, but still spends a lot of time in Hawaii. Both of her parents had a busy work schedule and so she grew up being raised by her grandmother, who taught her much about Okinawa and Japanese culture.
2) Portland, Oregon based Electronic/Trip-hop group combining the electronic music of Keith Schreiner with the incredible vocals of Jennifer Folker and the audio manipulations and turntablism of Jay Bozich aka King Fader. Formed in 1999 with the vision of Ohm club owner Dan Reed of Dan Reed Network fame in Portland,Oregon they have releases two albums Emotion Cycles[2001] and Vase{S}[2003]. Keith Schreiner performs solo as Auditory Sculpture. They have a myspace page and a bunch of live videos on YouTube.
3) French indieband with a male vocalist.
4) Dahlia Schweitzer - "The Queen of Berlin's electro scene," according to London DJ Mark Moore. Also a writer, performer, photographer, and general provocateur.
Described by Vogue as "sexy, rebellious and cool." "We have a crush on Dahlia," declares Penthouse.
Best described as electro-cabaret, Dahlia 's unique theatrical style of performance revisits Dietrich — if Dietrich had done post-punk electro disco. A unique combination of contemporary sound, old-fashioned aesthetics, and conceptual art, she has performed to critical acclaim throughout Europe and the United States. Her books are published by Random House and HarperCollins, and her photographs have been exhibited in Berlin, New York, and London.
Dahlia Schweitzer spent most of her life in New York and Tel Aviv. But it was in Berlin where she found fame, transforming herself into a singing, dancing, stripteasing queen of electro-cabaret.
Her most recent studio album, Plastique was released in 2005
Dahlia recently moved to Los Angeles, to coordinate the publication of her first American book, Seduce Me.
5) As dahlia (lower-case d). The stagename of kaori, a japanese electro-pop artist who has been produced by Nakata Yasutaka (capsule). dahlia was formerly a two-person group.
