Disappear Fear
Disappear Fear, an American folk/power pop band, formed in Baltimore in 1987. The original band consisted of sisters Sonia Rutstein and Cindy Frank. Their lyrics have always addressed social injustices and other progressive political causes. The band went on to sell over 500,000 cds at venues and rock and folk festivals and attracted the attention of Philo and Warner Chappell. Sonia, the songwriter in the group never changed an adjective and unlike many performers never hid her sexuality, therefore becoming a favorite at pride festivals around the world. The band signed with Philo Rounder Records and Warner Chappell Publishing in 1994 shortly thereafter Cindy Rutstein ceased playing regularly with the band in order to become a mother but has still recorded with Sonia and occasionally still performs live. Sonia continued on, signing a solo deal as ("SONiA") with Philo and continuing to work with Carlin and Warner Chappell. While continuing to tour the USA she began touring internationally as well garnishing multiple awards including several GLAMA's and Out Music Awards and the GLAAD album of the Year, as well as several first ballot Grammy Nominations. Musicians in the band over time have changed but the name disappear fear and the message" that if you disappear fear what you have left is love" has remained. With her band disappear fear and solo SONiA continues to perform around the world and has just released her 13th album a tribute to her favorite songwriter Phil Ochs, called "Get your Phil", which features the harmonies of the two sisters once again.
