Emma Salokoski
Emma Salokoski was born in Helsinki 10.28.76. She started playing violin when she was 11 years old. After Sibelius-upper secondary school (musical school in Finland) she moved to Stockholm to study musictheater in Kulturama. She graduated in 98. After a year of work, she wanted to continue her studies and went to Pop&Jazz-conservatoire, after which she moved to Sibelius-Academy’s jazz line. Salokoski began her active musical career around 2001 when Quintessence’s first EP was published. Along with Quintessence Emma has worked with a wide scale of other musicians as well. Perhaps the most popular of these is Don Johnson Big Band. She has also worked with many Finnish jazz musicians, Jukka Perkko and Severi Pyysalo to name a few.
After her first EP 'Puutarhassa' (forthright translation-In the Garden) she and the band decided to go with Finnish material and in December 2005 Emma Salokoski published her fist LP in sung in Finnish, Emma Salokoski Ensemble: Kaksi mannerta(Two Continents). Her newest Album 'Veden Alla' (Under the Water) is mostly based on the material made by the band itself thus few other composers have also been involved.
