Foxes!
Foxes! are an indie-pop 'n' rock band from Brighton, UK. The current line-up features Kayla Bell on vocals and drums, Adam Bell on vocals and guitar, Al Grice on bass and keys and Matthew Twaites on guitar, keys and omnichord.
Foxes! was founded by Adam and Kayla along with original member Daniel Pacrami, in a garden in Oxford in the winter of 2005. They played their first gig in the Port Mahon venue in Oxford that December.
Their first EP followed in April 2006. Entitled "46a Appleside Drive", named after the street where the band lived and wrote their songs together, it was recorded in one day on Cowley Road and produced by Jimmy "Evil" Hetherington in his home studio.
The packaging was designed and home-produced by Kayla with help from Adam and Daniel. It featured tags bearing the EP's title, tracking list and additional information, and was inspired by a recent art project that Kayla was working on at art school.
The band returned to Hetheringon’s studio to record their second EP "Hellomynameishenry@hotmail.com" in February 2007. Featuring a more raw and experimental edge to their first, more poppy release, the EP took several sessions to complete and featured more overdubbing and additional production to “46A Appleside Drive”.
After two years of solid gigging around Oxford, as well as shows at underground nights around London and the UK, they played their last performance with founding member Daniel Pacrami at The Cellar in Oxford in August 2007.
In a relatively seamless transition, Foxes! moved to Brighton and recruited a new keyboard and bass player Al Grice in October 2007.
In 2008, Foxes! began work on their debut album and released the song "It's Ridiculous, Adam" on Catcutter Records. The band line-up expanded to its current incarnation in late 2008 with the addition of their producer Matthew Twaites on sampler, guitar and omnichord. Foxes! ended the year with a download-only home-recorded EP consisting of an original Christmas tune entitled “Christmas Songs” along with four festive covers including indie pop lo-fi home recordings of “Winter Wonderland” and “Jingle Bell Rock”.
A new single was released the following year called "Who Killed Rob?", which featured a video re-enactment of the songs lyrics, which chronicles a bike accident suffered by Rob Steadman of Stornoway. The single was backed by a UK and California tour with Oakland pop-surfer combo The Hot Toddies.
In 2010, the band recorded an aquatic EP, played a set at the Indietracks festival in Derbyshire and completed a full UK tour, culminating in a sold out Shepherd's Bush show, with Oxford folk friends Stornoway.
Foxes! will release a new EP on Elefant Records in 2011, featuring two tracks from their as yet unreleased debut LP (The Panda Bear Song and Alex Badamchi) and two songs from the aquatic EP (Sailors and Boatswain). The EP will be backed with a 1970s Telethon themed video for The Panda Bear Song. The EP will be available on limited brown-coloured 7" as well as a full digital release. Read more on Last.fm.
