Gabriel Mark Hasselbach
Gabriel Mark Hasselbach is a JUNO Award winning multi-instrumentalist
with a firm grasp on contemporary and mainstream jazz idioms. He is a unique
stylist on trumpet, flute, flugelhorn and more, with more than a dozen CDs
under his own name, and many more with numerous other artists as player
and/or producer, several of which have gone gold, platinum, and even double
platinum. He has several JUNO awards, West Coast Music award, etc.
With his own releases he has made a solid impact on the US radio market, #26
at Jazz Week, and three number one MaxTrax hits. In 2007 he received his third
Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards nomination for Wind Instrumentalist of the Year,
and also a nomination for Album of the Year for 'Gabriel ... First Name Basis'.
Gabriel was the #3 most downloaded independent jazz CD at Amazon in 2005,
and received an award from Smooth Jazz.com for top downloads. In 2001 he
was featured on Jazz Alley TV's syndicated series for BET (shown in 41
countries) entitled 'Live On Maui' which has subsequently been released on
DVD. His music can be also heard in various movies and television
productions. Gabriel has performed at Montreux, North Sea, JVC, DuMaurier,
Pender Harbour, and National Arts Centre, among other festivals, and has
recorded or performed with the likes of Michael Buble (he even produced
Michael’s CD called Dream), Bob James, Tom Scott, Little Richard, Mary Wells,
Spyro Gyra, VEJI, Jeremy Monteiro, The O'Jays, Heart, Long John Baldry, The
Powder Blues, etc. He has performed in the home of Bill Gates, and was also a
featured artist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
In 2008 he delivered a brand new project co-written, co-produced, and featuring
acclaimed veteran recording artist Jeff Lorber. This album, entitled Cool Down,
was nominated for Album of the Year (and Gabriel for Wind Instrumentalist of
the Year) at the 2009 Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards, where was featured live
and also performed with Earl Klugh, Brian Culbertson, Darren Rahn, and
others. Cool Down has yielded two number one hit singles in Canada.
During the summer festival season, Gabriel toured with the young vocal
phenomenon Nikki Yanofsky, and for his feature at Scotia Bank ‘Jazz In The
