Gateway Drugs
1. Some kind of dreamy synth pop band from Cape Town, South Africa.
Contextually a social commentary on the situational circumstances of post-colonial city scenarios in Cape Town and the associated nuances of the political effects that eventually must follow, Gateway Drugs have produced a body that incorporates the incorporeal and that discusses the esoterically ephemeral - notwithstanding the tangible descriptions of the everyday material which presents in that which stimulates the senses.
What cannot be disregarded in any discussion of the works of this critically acclaimed musical ensemble is the existential question that arises in the setting which admits the transportation of its sonic energy from electroacoustic transducer to tympanic membrane. Indeed, that question is, "What is art?"
Any mortal attempt to produce a response to such an age defying philosophical consideration inevitabally will fail to account fully for the actuarial probabilities of population parameters of the ultimate truth, and likewise will fail to appreciate appropriately the available permutations of combinations of that which is not false. However, in "Gateway Drugs", this is not the case.
