Human Sexual Response
Human Sexual Response (aka "HSR" or "The Humans") was a new wave band from Boston, Massachusetts from the late 70s through the early 80s. Their sound is difficult to categorize, being deliberately transgressive, but they were weird and fun and are remembered for their many exciting live shows, mainly on the U.S. East and West Coasts. The band had four singers who sang in close harmonies and a great power trio backing them-- guitar, bass, and drums. They emerged from the same eclectic rock scene as The Cars and Mission of Burma.
HSR released two albums. The first was 'Fig. 14' (or 'Figure 14'), which gained critical acclaim as well as some underground success. It was later renamed 'Fig. 15' (or 'Figure 15') when it was brought out on CD in 1992 with the dubious addition of their raunchy song "Butt Fuck". Their second album, which never made it to digital/CD format, was entitled 'In a Roman Mood' and was produced by Mike Thorne (famous for being behind Soft Cell's "Tainted Love"). Their many performances notably included cross-dressing, homosexual flirting, fancy dance moves, and more. HSR met with limited success commercially, but they have die-hard fans even today.
