Kate Martin
As the daughter of working jazz musician parents, Kate Martin was always into music. At age 3, she taught herself how to play piano, mimicking the music she heard on TV; theme songs and advertising jingles. After this discovery, she then set about teaching herself any other instrument she could get her hands on and singing everything she heard. At 12, Kate was performing regularly in her father’s band, singing jazz standards in smoky bars. By the age of 14, she was writing and performing her own brand of folk-pop as a solo musician. At 17, Kate was playing supports for bands such as Little Birdy, Hungry Kids of Hungary and The Middle East. And now, at the age of 19, Kate Martin is releasing her first album.
Recorded in Sydney with Michael Carpenter at Love Hz Studios, Kate Martin’s debut is an eclectic and unconventional exploration of her wide range of musical influences and instrumental talents. Combining her jazz roots with the country folk music predominant in her home town of Townsville, along with the hook-filled pop music that she learnt to love from an early age, Kate has crafted an intriguing collection of ten songs that reveal more surprises on each listen.
