Kmeťoband
In early 70's, four brothers founded a group named Bratia (Brothers) as a result of a family tradition. Since 1999 the group of a father Igor Kmeťo and son Igor Kmeťo, Jr. is called Kmeťoband. While the father, Igor Kmeťo is also a manager of the group, the son plays synth and sax. The group is playing mainly romany music or selfdefined "rompop" mixed up with couple of nice funky pieces. Their repertoire is made of arround 250 live played songs, from the period since 40's till the present, they are preforming on live concerts, private or VIP parties, weddings and other shows. The main topic of their songs is love, sorrow and the life of youngsters. As Igor Kmeťo says: "everything comes from the heart".
The band became famous thanks to the cover song Buba Mara originally composed by the group No Smoking Orchestra and the movie "Čierna mačka a biely kocúr" (Black cat and white tomcat) directed by Emir Kusturica, who also sings and plays guitar in No Smoking Orchestra.
After successful three albums, Bubamara (2002), Vagabund (2004) and Hoj Amore (2006), the group releases in 2008 its fourth album Somnakaj Bašavel (Golden celebration) in collaboration with publishing house EMI.
