Mallard
There are multiple artists with this name
1. Mallard, a 1970s experimental rock band featuring ex-members of Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band.
In early 1974, after the recording of the Unconditionally Guaranteed album, Bill Harkleroad (Zoot Horn Rollo), Mark Boston (Rockette Morton) and Art Tripp III (Ed Marimba) (also formerly of Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention) had finally had enough of working with Don Van Vliet (Captain Beefheart). So they left his Magic Band and formed Mallard, with Sam Galpin on vocals, John Rabbit Bundrick on keyboards and Barry Morgan on percussion.
Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson, a Beefheart fan, financed their first album which resulted in their signing with the Virgin UK record label. So in 1975 they released Mallard, with Captain Beefheart alumnus John French (Drumbo) helping co-write some songs. The album was only available in America as an import.
In 1977 they released their second and last album, In a Different Climate, and performed several concerts in the UK. George Dragotta now replacing Art Tripp on drums and John Thomas replacing John Rabbit Bundrick on keyboards. Thomas was briefly involved in the Magic Band, and in the early 60's had been in a band called Rattlesnake and Eggs with John French.
In 1994, both LPs by Mallard were released on CD as Mallard / In A Different Climate by Virgin Records in the UK and in the USA.
2. Mallard is a six-piece emo band from PA, formed in 2010 featuring ex/current members of Footnotes, Corcovado, Broski, I Sing the Equator, Mumble, Tycho Brahe, Party Foul, Smoother, True Rest, Cold Foamers, Candy Coma, Corgi With a K, and Degrassi.
