Mateusz Smoczynski Quintet
Mateusz Smoczynski - presently a student in his fourth year at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw. He is a jazz violinist who debuted in 1999 at the Kalatowki Jazz Camp with Jacek Namyslowski's Quintet. He won the first place and an individual distinction at the Nationwide Review of Young Jazz Bands in Gdynia and in 2000 he won second place at the Festival of Jazz Standards in Siedlce. He has performed in various events including the Festival of Jazz Pianists in Kalisz, the Summer Jazz Festival at Piwnica Pod Baranami at the Sopot Jetty Jazz Festival, the Jazz Forum Festival, the Polish Jamboree and the Bracki Jazz Festival in Cieszyn. He plays with the best Polish musicians such as Janusz Skowron, Kazimierz Jonkisz, Zbigniew Wegehaupt and Zbigniew Namyslowski. Presently he is working with his own band with Konrad Zemler on guitar, his elder brother, Jan on piano, Wojciech Pulcyn on double-bass and Roman Slefarski on drums and this group recorded his first album Inspirations. They play music inspired by Zbigniew Seifert and John Coltrane's Quintet compositions. Read more on Last.fm.
