Mathieu Chedid
Mostly known by his nickname: -M-, Mathieu Chedid is an award winning singer and song writer of Lebanese descent. Chedid was born December 21, 1971 in Boulogne-Billancourt, France. He is the son of singer Louis Chedid and grandson of French poetess Andrée Chedid, who has written lyrics for several of his songs most notably "Bonoboo" from the album Je Dis Aime.
He began his music career at the age of six, making his debut on his fathers 1978 song "T'a Beau Pas Être Beau"
His live performances place a strong emphasis imagery and the nature of Chedid's alter ego -M-. Chedid emphasizes his mysterious nature through his clothes, and hair which is shaped like an M. He is famed for his guitar-playing abilities. On his 1999 album Je dis aime, -M- performs a cover version of The Cure's "Close to Me", which features a combination of French and English lyrics.
Chedid performs his concerts as the character -M- (a play on the word "aime" -- "like" or "love" in French-- and his own initial). On stage he is often backed by Cyril Atef and Vincent Segal, who both are in the trip hop group Bumcello. He is also accompanied by DJ Shalom on stage and on a few of his album songs, such as Le complexe du Corn Flakes.
From an early age he was a highly sought after session musician and has collaborated with many other artists including Arthur H, Mathieu Boogarts, Sean Lennon, Vanessa Paradis, Brigitte Fontaine, Alain Souchon, Alain Souchon , and many others
Chedid has also contributed his music talents to several motion picture soundtracks including Les Triplettes De Belleville, Ne Le Dis À Personne, Le Soldat Rose, Toutes les filles sont folles, Arsène Lupin, and the upcoming Un monstre à Paris (2009).
