Melissa Mars
Melissa Mars is an atypical, multifaceted performer and individual, engaged in everything from singing, writing, composing music and lyrics, photography and film-directing to theater and film actress and model.
Her musical career took off in 2003 with Papa M’aime Pas (Papa Doesn’t Love Me), a single with oedipal undertones that appears on her first album released by Polydor-Universal Records, and unveiled her dark, alluring and mysterious universe. This was followed by two other albums on Polydor-Universal which include a variety of pop, folk, and electro-rock sounds she composed with French and English lyrics. She has also collaborated with other well known artists and her duet “1980” rose to #5 on the French music charts in 2006.
Following this she was asked to be the model for the French clothing line Naf Naf, a perfect fit for their fall/winter collection because of her distinctive sense of style and her beauty. A poster campaign was launched displaying Melissa with her original fashion and look in stores and windows countrywide. In addition she designed her own t-shirts for the store’s promotional contest campaign.
These successes together with appearances and tours at festivals and solo concerts in France, Belgium, Canada, and New York, among others, brought her acclamation in major French newspapers such as Le Monde and Le Parisien as well as many web-based publications and sites.
Melissa Mars' film career includes a supporting role in Luc Besson’s (Nikita) explosive action flick From Paris With Love alongside John Travolta which has played in movie theaters worldwide.
Around the same time, new horizons opened for Melissa as she was able to combine her love and passion for acting and musicianship while adding an operatic sound to her repertoire of styles, after being cast in one of the leading roles, Aloysia Weber, a diva and Mozart’s eternal love in the successful musical Mozart The Rock Opera, directed by Olivier Dahan, Oscar winning director of the film "La Vie en Rose". Touring in France, Belgium, and Switzerland, the show has been a smash hit with more than 1,000,000 tickets sold, won 3 prizes at the 2010 NRJ Music Awards at the Midem in Cannes and the show’s record released by Warner got the “Diamond Record” distinction. Melissa Mars will be on tour with the musical until July, 2011.
As the rock opera Mozart draws to a close, Melissa has already resumed and is expanding her work as a singer and musician with the new electro-pop single JUST ONLY WANNA DANCE, recorded and released in two versions : English and French (French title : ET JE VEUX DANSER), a song on her upcoming and 4th album.
JUST ONLY WANNA DANCE is a song that Melissa Mars has co-written and one in which she remains true to her unordinary uniqueness and innovative flair by combining electro-pop/dance with an unexpected touch of opera, which she sings herself, a sound reminiscent of her experience in the Rock Opera.
