Mojo Nixon & the Toadliquors
Mojo Nixon mysteriously arose to national prominence in the late 1980's when his loud mouthed brand of rabble rousing acoustic rockabilly found a strangely receptive home on MTV. Starting his unlikely chart attack with a washboard toting sidekick named Skid Roper, after a couple albums he left the duo format to pursue a solo career. Eventually, Mojo formed a formal full-time touring cow punk backing band dubbed the Toadliquors. In 1992, they struck a deal with LA's Triple X to release the X-Mess album Horny Holidays!, which featured goofy Christmas covers. Mojo continued to trek across country, spending time as a radio personality, and doing bit parts in films, and side projects with fellow rock n roll outcasts like Country Dick Montana, and Jello Biafra, but never quite gaining the celebrity momentum of his initial burst upon the scene in the late 1980's.
