Nik Ammar
Nik Ammar is a London-born TV and film composer and musician best known for his role as guitarist and songwriter in the critically acclaimed Oi Va Voi. Nik first started music studying piano from an early age. Then aged eight he started learning classical guitar and then later switched to electric guitar.
After graduating from Oxford he travelled extensively throughout Central Asia and South America with his "Guitarrita". During this time he developed a strong interest and feel for ethnic music and instrumentation. Upon his return to the UK he studied Flamenco guitar and became guitarist and composer in Oi Va Voi (in which he also sings and plays percussion and various other stringed instruments).
Nik has performed for audiences all over the world including the Queen, Ralph Fiennes and Ewen MacGregor. As well as playing in such diverse places as Moscow, New York, Glastonbury, Cyprus, Paris, Germany, Amsterdam and Belgium, he has worked with many respected musicians including KT Tunstall, Annie Lennox, David Krakauer (Klezmatics) and legendary Algerian pianist Maurice El Medioni.
Since establishing himself as a TV and film composer in his own right, Nik has composed for numerous TV shows and documentaries, including The Vampire Diaries, Come Dine With Me, Location Location Location, The Wright Stuff, Waterloo Road, Hollyoaks, and Dragon's Den; has written and produced adverts and trailers for corporate clients as diverse as Sky, Nickelodeon, EPSN, Aveeno, and Metrodome; has been commissioned to write for renowned theatre company Oily Cart, and has just recently finished scoring the soundtrack to feature film Le Weekend.
