Oby Nine
Jasper Spobeck is Oby Nine, a young producer from the Dutch port city of Rotterdam. Oby’s productions are immaculate depictions of psychedelic scenes through the language of vintage synths, and colourful melodies.
At the tender age of 15, Oby Nine got his production skills in motion producing hip-hop beats. Under the ‘Jazzper’ moniker, he made beats for 'Underground Division' and later for 'True Villain'. As the years progressed, Jasper saw his tastes in music evolving. He slowly drifted towards post-dubstep, drum ‘n bass and experimental electronic music. It was during this era that Jasper took on the Oby Nine moniker, as inspired by Star Wars character, Oby Wuan Kenobi. Slicked out with a new identity, Jasper began producing post-dubstep tunes. Oby went about combining his hip hop background with his new fond admiration for dubstep and drum ‘n’ bass. His experimentations in post-dubstep resulted in material for his first EP, Illustrative Adventures.
Upon releasing Illustrative Adventures, Oby Nine delved further in various electronic movements around him. Just as he did before, Oby Nine would seek to merge his old productions interests with the new. Through constant evolution and merging of different sounds, Oby Nine had morphed from a hip-hop to a post-dubstep producer into a hybrid electronic music producer. His ability to transgress genre categorization has allowed him to forge his suave sound signature, the hybrid voyageur sound.
At the young age of 22, Oby Nine has two EP’s to his name, Illustrative Adventure (2011) and Weightless (2012). Not one to steady the pace, Oby Nine’s Serotonin Remix EP is due on 20th of January via Amsterdam based INI Movement.
