Petr Novák
Prague, Czech republic (1945 - 1997)
Petr Novák was a Czech (then Czechoslovakia) rock and musical singer. He rose to national fame during the late 1960s as part of the then massively popular "big beat" scene, experienced during the temporary political meltdown. He had a bunch of very succesful singles such as "Povídej", "Náhrobní kámen" and others. His first songs he released as a member of Flamengo, a band which would go to become a cult legend later without him. He reformed his own band later on in 1967 named George & Beatovens and used it as his backing band throughout most of his career.
His songs, mostly his 60s singles, have remained popular classics of Czechoslovak music and continue to be easily recognised by wide public, they have also appeared in various films. During the 1970s, Novák released several LPs, some of them concieved as rock operas and in the 80s he started gradually withdrawing from public eye. He, however, performed a number of reunion and memorial gigs towards the end of his life.
He wrote most of his music himself, while letting the lyrics to be handled by various lyricists and poets. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
