SILVER ASH
Silver Ash (银色灰尘) are a Visual Kei band from Beijing, China. They are known as the first Chinese Visual Kei band and have played a significant role in increasing the genre's popularity in China. They formed in the year 2000. Their music ranges from goth rock to soft rock and at times borderline metal.
In 2000, Sliver Ash went live at Get Lucky Bar. After Wang Sai and Wah Yi left the band, they were joined by two new members, the drummer Zhen and the bassist Hong, who they met at that live performance. Lucy, who was recommended by Then, joined the band shortly after. The band now consisted of five bandmembers. Silver Ash's gorgeous appearance and music pleased the majority of the audience. Some of the audience, staisfied with Silver Ash alone, began to leave after Silver Ash's performance.
2001 was the year of they did their first own show, entitled "Crescent Night", it was held at the Beijing Volcano Club. Surprisingly, Silver Ash had more than 200 fans showing up even though they had never released an album. They even attracted the attention of famous media groups, such as "Phoenix TV" and "Channel V". Metal style songs like "Liar" and "Twins" were added on top of the previous more lyrical songs. In March, the guitarist Nancy left the band and went to Canada to further his education. The band carried on with four members, Sliver Ash got signed by Scream Records in April. They then released their first demo single in August, called 风琴 (Organum).
Silver Ash’s Official Fan Club, "Pluma", was established in January 2002. Their first, self-titled album was then released. Lucy announced he would be leaving the band due to musical differences on May 1st. Lucy then started his solo project, 郭铁君. Sliver Ash started looking for a new guitarist and found him at the end of May in Yue. In June, Silver Ash released a video, Pluma Pray Part, which included two MVs, some clips and the special features from the last two years. After that, the band started the recording of a new single album. In November, Silver Ash started their first nationwide tour around China. The tour was named "Gorgeous Devil's Sacred Feast- Never End". The band's publicity increased and Silver Ash became more well known all over China.
In 2003, Silver Ash's second Demo Single Never End was released. Four songs were included on the single, including "Never End". To celebrate the release of the single, Silver Ash held a concert at Beijing "CD Cafe" Live House. This was also the final show of the "Gorgeous Devil's Sacred Feast- Never End" Tour. Unfortunately, Silver Ash was then forced to cancel all projects for the first half of the year due to the SARS virus. SARS also caused the cancellation of the USA tour. They began working on a new release. In November, Hong was forced to leave the band due to personal reasons. He was replaced by a new bassist, named Yu.
Silver Ash started recording their newest EP Out of Control ~蝶变~ (Out of Control ~Metamorphosis~), in 2004. This EP was aimed mainly at American fans. Silver Ash was invited to play at a huge event on the west coast of USA (PMX) in July. It was estimated that thousands of people would attend. Also other well-known Japanese bands such as, T.M.Revolution and Psycho le Cemu would play there. However, this event was canceled due to visa difficulties. They later released the EP, in May of the same year. After four years of activity, Silver Ash announced they will discontinue all activities starting at the end of 2004.
Silver Ash announced that, before they stop all activities, they will tour China for one last time. They named the tour "Finale Of Metamorphosis", and began working hard preparing for it. For this tour, Silver Ash rehearsed about 20 new and old songs, preaparing for concert preformances of about three hours. Also for the first time, Silver Ash had their farewell concert at Beijing New Get Lucky Club, officially going on hiatus.
Silver Ash officially ended their contract with Scream Records in December 2004. They were having problems with the Chinese Government. In exchange for ending the agreement early, Silver Ash began to record the last album that will be released by Scream Records. This product was named 未尽集 ~WeiJinJi (Unfinished Volume) by band leader Ling, meaning they are still unsatisfied and willing to go on. This CD spanned all of Silver Ash’s work, from early unreleased track to new material. All of the mixing was done at Ling's home. Even though some songs were old recordings, the band wanted to retain the original feeling of these songs, so they did not re-record them.
However in February 2005, Silver Ash announced they would officially resume band activities. They reopened their website. They had their comeback concert, "Revive Ceremony", at Beijing New Get Lucky Club to celebrate their new beginning. They then had a latest addition to the band, called Bai Niao (White Bird), on keyboard. Previously, Bai Niao was the vocalist and keyboardist of another Chinese visual kei band called Frozen Blood ([artist[冻结的血液[/artist]) Silver Ash held a concert entitled "Just 4 U" at Beijing New Get Lucky Club. Even though this was their second One Man Live in a very short period of time, even more people showed up than for "Revive Ceremony", there were also a lot of new supporters.
On 13th October 2007, they played with two others Japanese bands rice and Gram∞Maria at their coupling tour, in Beijing. Also on August 30th with the Japanese band, La'cryma Christi, particularly to be viewed by the record label SWEET-CHILD. Their most recent release is the PV for a track named 海的女儿 (pinyin: Hai de nu'er). The title of the track roughly translates into Daughter of the Sea. After that they went on a long hiatus. On January 1st of 2013 Ling announced Silver Ash's planned revival in the upcoming year with the release of the song "Pretty but Evil". The origins of which are commented on by Ling: "I wrote this song in 2011, but actually I had the idea for a long time. I wanted to find a new way for Silver Ash and myself, and I think "Pretty but evil" is a good one. I never afraid about change or I can say, I love to evolve by myself. Hope you guys like it." On January 4th Silver Ash opened an official bandcamp page to market the single, stating that all proceeds from the sale of Pretty but Evil will be going towards an "abroad performance"
Silver Ash's newest single "REBORN" got released on April 6, 2013.
