Saeed & Palash
Washington, D.C.-based DJ and music production duo SAEED & PALASH have been an integral part of the underground house movement for over a decade. From producing original tracks for their imprint Addictive Records, to remixing artists, and DJ-ing at clubs worldwide, Saeed and Palash have catapulted to the forefront of the genre with their own blend of progressive house music: an eclectic mix of groove-rich tribal-tech-infused sounds.
Saeed Younan and Palash Ahmed met in 1994, the summer before they entered their first semester at Virginia Commonwealth University; each of them were involved one way or another in Washington's burgeoning club scene. Both immigrants (Saeed came to America from Iraq when he was 13, Palash from Bangladesh when he was 8), the two shared a common vision of music they wanted to produce. They started their career together as Saeed & Palash by DJ-ing in local Washington clubs.
Deep Dish (Sharam and Palash were high-school chums) and New York City house music pioneer Danny Tenaglia were Saeed and Palash's earliest supporters. Tenaglia used their first single release "After Dark" on his DJ Magazine compilation. This landed them a partnership with UK DJ talent Nick Warren on the "Nick Warren IBIZA / Saeed and Palash MIAMI" D-Rom DVD compilation, a double disc set filmed on location in Miami and Ibiza with featured soundtracks mixed by Nick Warren and Saeed & Palash, along with interviews with Danny Tenaglia, Paul van Dyk and Timo Maas. Tenaglia also introduced the two to the metropolitan's house scene by allowing them to fill in for him at one of his Vinyl "Be Yourself" weeklies. Since then, they've become part of an elite group of DJ's who have attained international headlining status.
In frequent demand, the pair have headlined at renowned clubs such as Space (Ibiza), Cream (Ibiza), Pacha (Argentina, Israel, Spain), Bedrock (London), Twilo and Vinyl (New York), Buzz (DC), Release (San Francisco), Axis (Boston) and Aria (Montreal). They've also played at festivals worldwide, including Montreal's "Black and Blue," the world's largest indoor party and the UK's leading dance music festival "Homelands" sharing the same stage as international DJ super-stars Sasha and Digweed. With the exception of North America, Saeed & Palash are booked worldwide by Sasha's Excession Agency, who also keep mega-talents Hybrid, Sander Kleinenberg, Sandra Collins and Steve Lawler in the worlds hottest clubs. Domestically they are cared for by Producer Artist Management who also handle Paul van Dyk and Dimitri from Paris. Everywhere they perform, they leave crowds craving their silky smooth and hypnotic sets.
It was their infectious DJ style that drew the attention of London, UK-based Tide Recordings, the producers of the TIDE:EDIT compilation series, for their debut mix compilation. Influenced by artists and tracks from around the world, the internationally credited series brings together a wider spectrum of global beats seeking to follow the direction and success of DJ's who have contributed in the past such as Steve Lawler, Lee Burridge, and Danny Howells. Saeed & Palash were not only the first featured Americans in the series, but also the first to release a double disc mix for it.
Grammy award winner Peter Rauhofer (Club 69) is another consistent supporter of the duo. After commissioning them for high profile remixes for Celeda and Frankie Goes to Hollywood, he obtained the North American rights to their Tide:Edit:07 compilation. Released stateside on his Star 69 label, SAEED & PALASH: TIDE:EDIT:07 features two CDs of full-on hard-hitting sets which showcase each of their trademark sound. Highlights include the duo's own remix of Peter Bailey's "U Need It," G-Pal feat. Anna Maria X on the sensuous "Oceans Of Blue," Noel Sanger's "Towards The One" and Althea McQueen's rousing "Heartbroken."
In addition to their profile as DJs, Saeed & Palash also receive numerous remix offers. They carefully select projects that allow them to utilize their creative energy while maintaining their trademark sound. Their remix of Celeda's "The Underground" received accolades and play from top DJ's around the world, resulting in their first #1 Billboard chart hit. John Digweed was so impressed with their sound that he asked the duo to remix his popular track "Voices." Saeed and Palash have also taken on projects from artists such as Kylie Minogue ("In Your Eyes"), Frankie Goes to Hollywood ("Relax"), Puncher ("The Wall") and Da Junkies ("Fab Planet"), just to name a few.
The pair also run their own Addictive Records, a vanguard label that injects fresh, innovative sounds into the hands of DJ's and music producers worldwide. Top DJ's like Danny Tenaglia, Deep Dish, Sasha, John Digweed, Carl Cox, Danny Howells and Steve Lawler frequently spin Addictive releases in their sets and include them on their mix compilations. In addition to producing and releasing tracks on their own label, Saeed and Palash are committed to signing and bringing new producers such as Devol, Nu Ground, MV, and Stereomovers to a new level.
