Sofus Forsberg
Sofus Forsberg started out in 75 by putting a seewing-needle through a pick-up house on an old record player. Then he would sit for hours with headphones attached to the recordplayer and listen to the silence. Looking at the record spinning around. With nothing much to do in suburbian copenhagen he started playing basslines in a local techno-pop band. Heavily influenced by depeche mode.
In 86 he takes up guitar and changes direction into a more jazz-rock influenced style. The guitar seems to bring a whole new world of sounds, wildness, and Sofus practices a lot.
In 92 the more raw energy seems to be the thing and he forms a heavy-funk band called Impotators, together with Mads Geertsen (Je m’appelle mads). A very energetic band with a female drummer who sings opera, sonic guitar assaults, groovy bass, and a show with no mercy. After extensive touring they release the cd – a perfect day in 95.
The band breaks up in 96 and sofus is quite fed up by the whole musicscene and gets a computer. ”It’s like a totally new instrument” he says. Jungle, and the whole IDM scene opens his ears. After some experimentation and a track on a compilation DK00, he ends up in 2000 and get the chance to remix Under Byen together with Niels Böttcher. Here he meets Henriette Sennenvaldt. The vocalist from the band. A very creative collaboration starts. The remix is released in 2000 on vinyl only.
Sofus starts to make more slow and minimal tracks. With the more quiet beauty as the driving force. Henriette, Niels Böttcher and Sofus start to make wonderful tracks together and sofus dares to become more minimalistic with he’s own music. But still with a sense of atmosphere. He still plays lots of concerts, to ”get out there and feel the audience”. He’s discover the world of sampled sound, and starts to make a lot of field recordings and uses them to cut up, mangle and twist in different machines. he uses it as his ”basic library” and starts to compose completely new and different tracks. Beautiful complex atmospheric sounds and the new way of sound structures together with Henriette’s voice. WOW. The signature Sofus Forsberg sound is born.
So in 2002 Sofus’s first album appears. It’s released on Jenka Music. Sofus spends the next following year touring. Two rather big tours in Germany in all major cities. On the norberg festival for experimental electronics Norberg, Sweden. EKKO festival Bergen, Norway, numerous danish experimental and even jazz festivals.
Sofus has also made movie-scores to various danish movies, and he has teached on several educational facillities.
In 2005 Sofus Forsberg released his second album “udefra” , showing his deeper sides without the singer Henriette Sennevaldt. This album represent a deeper and more electronic part of Sofus Forsberg.
