Sona
There are at least five artists who go by "Sona":
1) Yoon Son-ha (born 15 October 1976, Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do, South Korea) is a Korean actress, singer and television personality (gaijin tarento). She is signed onto Sony Music Japan's SME Records division. Since making her debut in the MBC dramas, she has acted in Korea and Japan, probably due to her fluency in Japanese as well as in her native Korean, where she has gained popularity from starring in the Fuji TV drama, Fighting Girl with co-star Kyoko Fukada. In Japan, however, she is known as Yun Sona (ユンソナ).
2) Sona (born Daniel Emifeoluwa, 1991) is a British Afrobeats artist from South London. He debuted on the underground scene in 2014 with tracks 'No Wahala' and 'Ijo Sona'. However, in late 2014 he was wrongfully convicted of Aggressive Robbery and handed a 10-year prison sentence which was overturned in 2016. In 2017 he returned to the Afrobeats scene releasing 'Ginger', which reached Number 2 in the Capital Xtra Afrobeats Chart.
3) It’s not very often these days that one hears a voice that feels at once unique, soulful, powerful as well as timeless. Sona Mohapatra’s is a story of uncompromising commitment to a sound that she heard in her heart. It has been a journey to different places, of encounters with different people and different stories, to culminate in the final destination of her debut album, titled ‘SONA’.
Standing tall at 5 feet 8 inches, this attractive Engineering and Business School graduate has been singing since the age of 6. She has trained in Hindustani Classical for over 10 years.Her music is not pure classical, not folk, not pop and not of any particular genre. She is just Sona.
Sona has a great band, loads of ethnic guitars (CHINTOO SINGH on lead, NARIMAN KHAMBATTA on electric & JOSE BOSWIN on rhythm), world percussions (ABHAY on percussions) with influences as diverse as Romani gypsy music and R&B to East Indian Baul and North Indian folk rhythms comprise Sona’s music. With this, she aspires to be the voice that bridges the ancient and the contemporary. Other than for her live performances, she is also much sought after as a singer for ad jingles and a voice-over artist. She is the singer of several television commercials. Her first video single ‘Bolo Na’ became the most requested single on MTV India in the first week of launch itself. Her second video ‘Ishq nachaya’ will hit the airwaves soon & her video with INXS will be on air by the end of November 06.
4) Bangor grunge band formed in the garage of Jamie Davies (b.1985) (voc,gtr), Kyle Lee (bass) (also of Gintis, Jives Room), Adam Jones (drms). Started gigging end of 2004, Dan Bone was bassist until Aug08 when he left to become a cardiac profusionist. Rel 2 EPs, ‘Sona EP’ (2006) and ‘Underwater EP’ (2008), both rec at MASE studios, Colwyn Bay.
