Sophie Watillon
During her short life the Belgian viola da gamba-soloist Sophie Watillon (1965-2005) gained international fame for her interpretations of Early Music and Baroque compositions for viola da gamba.
Sophie Watillon was born in Namur, Belgium in a musical family. At the age of sixteen she studied with Philippe Pierlot in Maastricht, Wieland Kuijken in Brussels, and at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (Basel, Switzerland) with Paolo Pandolfo.
Apart from her solo career, Watillon was a permanent member of Hesperion XXI, La Capella Reial de Catalunya, and Jordi Savall's Le Concert des Nations.
