Stuart Balcomb
"Gravity & Grace" is a new kind of yoga soundtrack. An approach entirely different from what has traditionally been done was taken to "sculpt" the music to enhance the movements instead of simply writing tunes that would merely function as background music. Yoga Master Peter Sterios and Stuart Balcomb spent two days meticulously spotting the footage to determine different changes in energy levels and movements for almost every frame of film. This is something normally done for a feature-length film, not yoga videos. It then took 5-1/2 weeks of solid composing, recording, and mixing to create three hours of music for the DVD.
Composer Stuart Balcomb works for film and TV in Los Angeles. Before moving to LA he studied vibes with Gary Burton and taught composition and arranging at Berklee College of Music in Boston from 1974-78; he has written arrangements for Woody Herman, Cher, Donald O’Connor, Andy Williams, Magician David Avadon, Gary Burton and the Buffalo Philharmonic, and composed for "Batman: The Animated Series" (Fox network), "The Moses Code," and "The Black Door," which won Outstanding Achievement at the Elevate Film Festival.
He also scored "The Ore," a pilot for the Sci-Fi channel; five films for the Elevate Film Festival; and "Deeper," director Mikki Willis' submission for Steven Spielberg's FOX series ON THE LOT, co-produced by Mark Burnett. His soundtrack for the documentary "1000 Journals" premiered at the 2007 AFI Film Festival, Los Angeles, and has screened at festivals in Berlin, Indianapolis, San Francisco, Newport Beach, and Del Rey, Florida. Currents projects include Disney's "Brian O'Brian" and "Mythic Journeys." Read more on Last.fm.
