Supersonic
Supersonic may refer to:
1) Supersonic - finnish metal band
2) Supersonic Sound - Reggae Soundsystem based in Berlin, Germany
3)supersonic is an Indie / Rock / Alternative band from budapest, hungary.
Supersonic was a short-lived solo project by the Finnish Thrash/Death Metal guitar legend P. Korkala, who in this project appeared under the alias 'Fishmann'. The music of Supersonic was largely composed with Fruity Loops and its notorious shred guitar plug-in Fruity Slayer. Supersonic's songs were thematically very close to nature, dealing with topics as diverse as owls, forests and swampmen(?). Upon hearing Metallica's "St.Anger" album, P. Korkala decided to pursue a different style of musical register (songs about sheriffs) and disbanded Supersonic to serious fan backlash. In late March 2008 the Finnish national tv Channel Four News announced plans to be afoot for the triumphant return of Supersonic, but this was denied on Korkala's part, although he did confirm planning a series of live shows for the summer of 2008. This, in turn, was put on the backburner by P Korkala two weeks later, claiming 'creative and logistical difficulties' within the band and 'time not being right, yet'.
Another music groups with the name Supersonic is the Reggae Soundsystem Supersonic from Berlin, GErmany. It was founded in the summer of 1998 when Panza (selector) recorded the first mixed tape set. It was more a coincidence than anything else since the tapes were a huge success first locally and later on nation wide.
He started selecting on his own playing a few clubs in Berlin. Spider (MC) joined the sound in 1999 and after a brief period the two became a well known tag team travelling all over the country. The mixed tapes series was established by now and Supersonic became a household name among the cassette fraternity.
Now that the sound was travelling a lot it was even easier for the fans to put a face to the tapes they were listening all the time. In 1999 Uzzla (sound fx) joined his two friends but he first focused on the website and the international cassette business. In 2001 he started on the sound fx adding a lil spice to the sets.
Supersonic's reputation grew steadily over the years and they are rated among Germany's leading soundsystems spreading a positive and energetic vibe. In 2001 they promoted a successful leg of Sound Trooper's 1st Anniversary tour in Berlin alongside Pow Pow and Harry Toddler.
Only a few month later they won the "Kill Or Be Killed" clash against Sentinel, Wadada and Budadub in Cologne. Internationally they flattened Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Hungary and Tobago. In 2002 they appeared at both big festivals namely Summer Jam in Cologne and Splash in Chemnitz. In 2003 they held their 4 year anniversary bash which featured Caveman from Jamaica among others.
In July 2006 they surprised at the annual "Reggae Summer 2003" when they battled it out with Soundquake and lost only by inches. By the end of the year they invited the legendary Tony Screw and his Downbeat foundation machine for two juggling affairs in Europe. Next February will see them team up with Sentinel for the 5 year anniversary 2 gig show tour.
Supersonic is here to please the people, that is for sure. They play all kind of styles dealing with Caribbean music, from ska to roots, from lovers to dancehall and even soca. It is their aim to show the entity and depth, not only certain periods or extracts. Whenever you come to a Supersonic dance satisfaction is guaranteed. At least one of them is a reggae / dancehall soundsystem that released the mix CD Supersonic - Welcome to Jamrock (Conscious 2005).
