Surya
1) Surya was a French jazz-rock fusion super-group who existed 1977 to 1979.
The initial band was formed by Didier Lockwood (violins) and Jean-My Truong (drums) after they quit ZAO in March 1977. Completing the original line-up was Francis Lockwood (keyboards), Luc Plouton (synths) and Dominique Bertram (bass). The initial sessions were to be issued as an LP for RCA in May 1977 due to Truong's involvement with Balance, yet that never happened. Bassists came and went, with Bunny Brunel taking over for a while before being replaced by Sylvain Marc. In August 1977 they recorded their sole album at Studio Damiens in Paris, and searched for a label to release it. After Tapioca advertised "Surya" (TP 10019) as a forthcoming release when no contract had been signed a legal case ensued and delayed the album's release until it eventually appeared on Corelia in 1979.
Personnel on the album:
Bass – Sylvain Marc
Drums – Jean My Truong
Piano – Francis Lockwood
Synthesizer – Luc Plouton
Violin – Didier Lockwood
