The Diamond Family Archive
Born in Creekmoor, Dorset to deeply religious parents, Laurence, as a child, ended up living with a new-age Christian community in New Zealand and then ended up, luckily, on the south coast of England via Universities in Cornwall and France.
Laurence was the songwriter for Brighton based band chimp. They released two albums that received praise and airplay from the likes of John Peel, Steve Lamaq and Xfm.
Life, however, sometimes takes a funny turn. Following the loss of his childhood sweetheart Laurence retreated and turned his back on his then musical endeavours to take stock. He found himself recording a collection of songs in a greenhouse on the very remote west coast of Ireland. These songs become the foundations on which the diamond family archive was built. The songs were personal, sometimes painful tales of love lost and life’s laments.
Since then all the diamond family archive recordings have been made in Laurence’s flat. They are true bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, hallway recordings. He writes, records, produces and plays everything himself. He is possibly a control freak.
Since it’s creation the diamond family archive has played shows in North America, Germany, England, Ireland and Scotland. Support slots have included: The Radar Bros., Efterlang, Josh T. Pearson and Sparklehorse.
Laurence also plays for a handful of friends musical projects. These include The Great Park (Woodland Recordings) and Blanket (Try Harder Records). He is also part of Stolen Recordings diverse roster and appears on their acclaimed compilations.
This year has seen a split ep with The Great Park, 2 albums on Woodland Recordings and a release with Fence Records.
