The Fire
There is more than one artist with this name.
1) The Fire is an hard rock band from portugal formed in April 1991, making their first concert on the 14th of July 1991.
In January 1992, they reached the first place in a Modern Music Festival, in Vila Nova de Gaia.
In 1993 they recorded their first original demo tape at Reck n' Roll Studios, which pushed the band to perform in Queima das Fitas, O'Porto, on May 1993, and in Ritual Rock Night's Festival, also in O'Porto, on September 1993.
After that, the band went to studio for the recording of their first original album "The Fire", November of 1994), followed by some appearances on the best national television channels.
In 1995 came the internationalization of the band, with several shows in Spain.
On May 1996 the band went back to O'Porto's Queima das Fitas.
The recording of the second original album "Burning Rock" began in the end of 1997, and was finished in 1998 with a lot of good critics in their country and in some very respected international magazines.
Today, the band is in studio, working in their third album and participating in the tribute record to the band Tarantula.
2) The Fire project takes birth in 2005, with the meeting of the members from two bands very well known in the Italian alternative scene: Shandon and Madbones (Ammonia records/V2 records).
Shandon was one of the biggest Italian acts in the punk/ska scene, and even the rest of Europe learned a lot about their live qualities in the recent years.
Madbones was a big reality of Italian pop-punk/emo rock scene, and their songs reached also Europe, Japan, Thailand, with compilations like “Eastpak’s Propunkrocker 3” or “Punkk-a story to kill” (Universal-with Blink 182, New Found Glory, Hoobastank, Sum 41, the Used, Yellowcard, Finch..).
The guitarists, songwriters and singers, Olly and Andre, have been cooperating for many years, to take part as guests to various projects, to produce some bands, and create an Italian punk rockers all-star band.
What brings them to create this new project is the need of finding a new sound, that involves the various musical influences and experiences collected within more than ten 10 years of intense live activity.
During 2005 the band builds a small recording studio and works hard writing the new songs: the long studio sessions appear to be essential looking for a new sound.
The result is a brand new album called Loverdrive, that will be released in march 2006 by Bagana records, an Italian indie label, with V2 distribution.
The “Loverdrive tour” starts in april. The band plays also big festivals, like Eastpak Rock fest, with Misfits and Lagwagon, and in july the Fire are the supporting act for a rock legend: Deep Purple!
In august the band starts a 3 weeks european tour, reaching Belgium, Holland, Austria and Germany.
The guys share the stage with such as bands as the Satanic Surfers, Nashville Pussy, Mad Sin, Total Chaos and the german band Beatsteaks.
Back in Italy, they partecipate to the popular Rock in Idro festival, playing on the mainstage, with many important artists, like Iggy Pop and the Stooges, the Damned, International Noise Conspiracy, Towers of London, Eagles of Death Metal.
Again on European tour in october. Belgium and Holland. The crowd grows bigger and bigger gig after gig. This time, the band is managed by two big booking agencies, L&S for Belgium and SOZ Concerts for Holland.
During the same month, the first single video “Emily” is shot, to promote the album on tv networks.
All musical channels, including Mtv Italy, put the video on rotation, that achieves (and still does) a good success.
In november the album Loverdrive, sold out after few months from the first release, is reprinted in a new version, with 2 brand new songs, “Mr Unbreakable” and “Christmas Tale”.
After 80 live shows in 8 months, the band takes a break to write the songs for the new album.
Since february 2007 the Fire are on tour again, that will last ‘till summer, when they will be back in the studio, to record the sequel of the lucky first album Loverdrive. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
