The Light Footwork
Songwriting duo Jay Underwood and Becca Wilhelm released their debut album, One State Two State, in early 2006.
One State Two State met immediate critical acclaim when tracks were leaked to the mp3 blogging world in late Fall of 2005. Heralded as Your New Favorite Band by blogger Matt Jordan on his high-traffic blog, www.YouAintNoPicasso.com, The Light Footwork has been warmly received by periodicals and critics across the US.
The warmth spilled over to the radio where One State Two State climbed steadily to 69 on the CMJ charts within just 4 weeks, becoming the highest ranked self-released album on the CMJ Radio 200, and the only self-released artist in the top 100. Initial comparisons were drawn between The Light Footwork and Beulah, although others have found similarities with Pavement and The Unicorns. Beulah comparisons were inevitable as listeners learned that Beulah members had joined Jay and Becca in the studio and played on every track. Beulah fans were also quick to notice Jay as Beulahs tour intern featured in the documentary, A Good Band is Easy to Kill.
Despite these obvious comparisons, One State Two State brings a fresh and unique sound to the indie-pop world. Their vocal trade-offs, harmonies, powerful guitar riffs, and eccentric lyrics point to a bright future for this young group. Read more on Last.fm.
