The Smalls
The Smalls have their origins in the small rural towns of Alberta. Vocalist Mike Caldwell and bassist Corby Lund are from the town of Taber, while guitarist Dug Bevans is from Leduc just south of Edmonton and Drummer Terry Johnson is from the northern Alberta town of La Glace.
"...being rural people has an effect on the music, it gives it a different vibe..."
The four then ended up at Grant MacEwan Communtiy College in Edmonton, Alberta, where Mike, Corby and Terry were taking classes in music, and Dug was taking art courses. They soon met and discovered shared influences from many genres including speed metal, classic rock, country, and jazz, soon after they formed The Smalls.
In 1990 they released thier self-titled debut, followed in 1992 with the sophomore release, 'To Each A Zone', 1995's very successful 'Waste & Tragedy', and their much anticipated fourth album 'My Dear Little Angle' was released in 1999. the smalls sound cannot be simply classified as fast, or heavy, (which they certainly are) because they play with a musical discipline and style that includes jazz, country, and many other influences. As the members of the smalls grew so did their music. It was a journey from the small towns of rural Alberta to the nations of Europe.
As of August 2014, The Smalls have reunited after a 13 year hiatus.
