The Stance Brothers
The Stance Brothers is a project by Teppo “Teddy Rok” Mäkynen. Teppo has thus far gained fame both as a producer and as an outstanding drummer. He is the drummer and live band leader of the globe-trotting The Five Corners Quintet, the visionary behind the late Teddy Rok Seven, and the producer of such Finnish jazz co-luminaries as Jukka Eskola and Timo Lassy, to name but few of this all-encompassing talent’s endeavours.
The Finnish jazz press has selected him several times as the “drummer of the year” and he has been awarded on many occasions, most recently with the most highly-regraded Finnish jazz award, Yrjö (”Georgie”) in early November 2007. His debut album “Universal Four” by the Teddy Rok Seven received enthusiastic reviews and showcased Teppo’s skills as a composer, arranger and producer. “Universal Four” also won the Jazz Record of the Year -award in Finland.
The Stance Brothers represent raw garage jazz in its purest form. The band was formed by the Stance brothers Isiah and Dwayne. After enlisting their friend, a virtuoso drummer by the name of Byron Breaks, the line up was complete. The core of The Stance Brothers’ sound stems from countless of hours spent jamming at their dusty garage. The trio’s unfaultering will to excel in playing funk-influenced garage jazz comes second only to their passion for shooting hoops at the nearby basketball court. Read more on Last.fm.
