The Young Friends
A desert isn't a beach... Though it can be with a little imagination. No one gets this more than Arizona natives, The Young Friends. Andrew McKee and Brant Stuns met on MySpace their freshman year in high school, and had been in several failed bands together. They decided to give it one more shot after being inspired by a road trip to the beaches of San Diego to make surf music, even though neither of them had listened to it much before. The trip was so inspiring that every time they picked up their instruments they envisioned being back at the boardwalk, where they'd give anything to spend all day cruising on their bikes.
Andrew and Brant's band name unexpectedly came to them when a friend's mom mentioned her "Young Friends" were coming over. Ironically, they played their first show at a 21 and up bar, where their friends were too young to get in. Only Brant's parents were there to cheer them on. "Hella" was written and recorded in Andrew's bedroom during their senior year, and sets the tone perfectly for summer. So, no matter where you live, no matter the time of year; close your eyes, listen and pretend it's a beach. Read more on Last.fm.
