Tulpa
There are two artists named Tulpa. 1) A Canadian prog-rock band. 2) An Italian black metal/d-beat band.
1) Tulpa is Chris Bottomley (bass, vocals, keyboards), John Bottomley (guitar, vocals, keyboards), Sev Micron (percussion, vocals, keyboards). Formed in 1981, Tulpa was equal parts Chris Bottomley, John Bottomley and Sev Micron (Mike Severin). They were a progressive rock trio from Toronto, Canada that sounded like a meeting between King Crimson and the Sex Pistols. They were loud, aggressive, opinionated, funny and angry, with a crazy, psychedelic stage show called The Tulpa Circus. It was very multi-media and involved slide projection, dance and strange futuristic cyber clowns. Tulpa had a lot of energy and opened for Michelle Shocked, Living Colour and others in their heyday.
When they released their first full length record "Mosaic Fish" on U.K.'s Midnight Records in 1984, the Globe and Mail took notice and started writing about them. Tulpa had to go to England to get their first deal because no one in Toronto's record buz cared about heavy indie rock acts at the time. Midnight Records put the record out and gave them a push and soon Tulpa was opening for hip-era bands like The Payolas and The Tragically Hip, garnering encores as an opening act unheard of at the time. Like a steam roller they headed off on their first national tour, The Tuna Tour and woke up the nation.
Bottomley was born in Toronto in 1960 and died in 2011 in Brackendale, British Columbia. The coroner's report concluded that Bottomley took his own life and a family spokesperson confirmed that he had been suffering from clinical depression.
2) Tulpa is an Italian black metal/d-beat band formed in 2016 featuring members of Domina Noctis and Forgotten Tomb. They released their debut EP Fear of Fades in 2017. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
