Chicago’s YAWN is gearing up to release their sophomore LP, Love Chills, on September 9th via Old Flame Records. Inspired by shaky romantic affairs, the cosmic, genre-bending album is like listening to the band’s own brand of electro-infused indie pop through a trippy, psychedelic filter. Featuring buzzing guitars and warbling synth, you can preview album track “Flytrap” where it premiered with Entertainment Weekly, and stream & share the track via Soundcloud. The band also put together an album teaser video, featuring snippets of various Love Chills tracks set to appropriately mind-bending images.
Since forming in 2009, YAWN’s experimental sound has drawn comparisons to the likes of Animal Collective, Yeasayer, and MGMT, but the band has managed to keep things fresh and forward-thinking. Much like 2011’s widely-praised Open Season, Love Chills is simultaneously unconventional and accessible, mixing off-kilter psychedelia with infectious pop hooks. Its ten tracks take listeners on a journey through lush soundscapes, peppered with driving beats and hazy, blissful melodies.
