Brainpower
Brainpower (or MC Brainpower) is a Dutch rapper born in Belgium (Gerrit-Jan (Gert-Jan) Mulder - Antwerpen, Belgium 5 februari 1975). His family moved to Alphen aan den Rijn, The Netherlands were he was introduced to hip hop and rap. In the early 90s he moved to Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Brainpower whose career rocketed after winning the Grand Prix of the Dutch Talent Show in 1998. Together with his long time friend and collaborator turntablist DJ TLM (www.djtlm.com) he released his long-awaited debut album "Door Merg & Brain" ('Through Bonemarrow & Brain") in 2001. His second album "Verschil moet er zijn" ('There has to be distinction' certified gold) spawned his greatest hit so far, the single "Dansplaat" ('Dancetrack'). The single (certified gold) held the no.1 spot for 6 weeks (4 weeks in Holland and 2 weeks in Belgium).
Apart from collaborations with many dutch rappers, Brainpower has also recorded tracks with Nas and Kool Keith. Both tracks can be found on his third album "Even Stil" ("Quiet for a moment"). His most recent albums were the 2008 releases "Hard" and "Hart" (Hard and Heart), where "Hard" contains witty and upbeat tracks, and "Hart" has the more personal, intense and slower tracks.
Brainpower will release his Greatest Hits album "Mijn Manier" on the 19th of October 2009. This 2Disc/1DVD set also contains one new track called "Mijn Manier" (produced by DJ TLM).
