Def Räädu
DEF RÄÄDU is a unique mixture of nordic climate, bumpin beats and all good things in this world. Def Räädu’s sound combines reggae, dub, trip hop, house and jazzy flavored beats with a rock steady groove. They successfully deliver tunes that are uplifting and lighthearted.
Def Räädu started in february 1999. Main members / producers GEE aka GY3 aka SUBURBAN SUSPEKT and POZZ aka DEEP POSSAH produced then their first track named "People With No Money". In 1999 they also produced several tracks with MC's J.O.C. and DICE RUDY for Lejal Genes' compilation "Higha Collection 2". They also had some success in Estonian TV, as “Confession" (with DICE RUDY) reached to no.2 position in national TV's weekly countdown.
In year 2000 they produced "Limiitideta Action Mõmmi Baaris", which has been described as the first house track in estonian language. They also produced music for MC STUPID F. Their song "People With No Money" was included to CD-Rom section of Japanese computer magazine "100% Windows" in April. Def Räädu was also an "Electronic Artist Of The Week" in Riffage.com in April. In autumn and winter they gave successful concerts with "Def Räädu Rakvere Project 1".
In spring 2001 they produced "On The Mic" for MC J.O.C., which was quite popular in Estonian club scene. In summer 2001 they started to work with and remixing other european artists like "Serious Bass aka Supaa B" and "Eagle E and Doc B". Def Räädu also produced "Don't Acquiesce In Evidence" with DICE RUDY & J.O.C. and released its CD-single with 6 remixes by Estonian electronic music artists. They also released "Café Liquid Deluxe - best of 1999-2001" compilation.
Year 2002 started with "Freedom" - made with Estonian ragga MC BASKET. Def Räädu also started to work with artist named KYNT from USA. They produced him "Chelsea" (12" released by Point Recordings UK in May 2002) and did a "Dew Drops Dub" re-work of his "How Could You?". They also worked with lot of new material and gave concerts all over Estonia with MCs J.O.C. DICE RUDY, STUPID F and musicians from Tallinn's band named PHLOX. Def Räädu also produced "Viivu - The Way You Make Me Feel".
Year 2003 started with Lejal Genes' compilation "Higha Collection 3", which included 6 tracks produced by Def Räädu. Compilation was successful and got good reviews in national newspapers. Probably the biggest success in 2003 was a collaboration song with New York's DJ and producer ANTONIO OCASIO. The song titled "Eesti" was released by Tribal Winds NYC and was successful all over the world.
Def Räädu also had some success in www.stereo88.com monthly chart, as they won it two times and other tracks got good reviews as well. In May 2003 "Listen to the sound" was no.1 in USA's garageband.com dance music chart for 3 weeks. Def Räädu also had two songs in Estonian TV's weekly video countdown: "Love Song" (with J.O.C. & MARIE-ANGE) at no.1 and “Hey Babylon" (with DICE RUDY, J.O.C. & HASH) at no.2. In addition they had good concerts in Estonia's best clubs.
In February 2004 DR celebrated its 5th b-day with concerts all over Estonia. April saw the release of "Vibratsioon 3" collection with "Chelsea" on it by Umblu Records. May witnessed Lejal Genes' release "Higha Collection 4" with "Anname Tuld" on it. In June Def Räädu was honoured to have P.JULM remix of "The Way You Make Me Feel" on both CD and LP release of "Nite:Life 19" by NRK Music. DR's "Nu Beats Remix" of the same song was also on "Julm Longplayer no.1" in July. MindNote Records' release "Volüüm 2" had DEF RÄÄDU MASSIVE's "Mida Me Võitleme" on it in September. The end of the year brought the second DEF RÄÄDU's album - titled "Planet Duckrabbit" - to the people. It contains 65 minutes of pure pleasure with music produced by DEF RÄÄDU and with artists like J.O.C., DICE RUDY, STUPID F, GEE, KIND OF GROOVE, KYNT, VIIVU, BASKET, ANTONIO OCASIO and ÉHA.
In February 2005 "Planet Duckrabbit" was nominated for Estonian Music Award in a hiphop/r'n'b category. Def Räädu did'nt win it, but "Clone (feat. Kynt)" won February's Meet The Mixer (also known as Stereo88.com) Chart. In July Lejal Genes released "Def Räädu Teema / Las Ma Ütlen" CD-single with 8 remixes and video of "Las Ma Ütlen".
