Hearts Fail
Hearts Fail is a San Antonio, TX-based Post-Punk / Alternative / Goth band. The original lineup was comprised of Clint Kingsbery (keyboards), Michael Lampe (bass, backing vocals), Roberto Medina (lead guitar), Ruben Salazar (drums, percussion), and Edward Wagner (lead vocals, rhythm guitar). They formed in May of 2003 and quickly released their debut album, "The Empty Promise," in 2004. "Wishing Well," a standout track on the album, was placed on Strobelight Records' "New Dark Age 3" Compilation as well as Gothic Magazine's Compilation (Germany), garnering the band a fair amount of international acclaim. The band soon recorded their follow-up, a download-only EP entitled "Medallion," in 2005 (a limited-edition CD was finally released in 2008). The band was also named "Best Unsigned Band" in 2005's Gothic Magazine (Germany).
After the release of Medallion and several high-profile gigs (opening for the likes of The Cruxshadows, Bella Morte, The Last Dance, etc.), Hearts Fail began the process of recording what would become "The Dying Season." The recording sessions themselves were fraught with difficulty, however, which led to the band parting ways with keyboardist Kingsbery and indefinitely shelving the recorded tracks. After a brief hiatus, the band regrouped and started recording from scratch, cutting out several songs originally intended for the album, while writing several new ones that would eventually make their way onto the final track listing. The new songs marked a bold new direction for the group - darker, sullen, and more aggressive, with a greater focus on guitar arrangement.
Re-recording the album proved to be no easy feat, however. After the album was deemed complete, unhappiness over several songs caused the band to re-record once again, as well as add some shorter instrumental tracks into the final running order. After further difficulties in the studio, along with another lengthy hiatus, Hearts Fail returned to finally release "The Dying Season" in November of 2009. The band is planning to tour the album in 2010. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
