Rulers of the Deep
Rulers of the Deep aka Vibe Residents met in 1998, when DJ Meri and P.Julm started their residency at one of the most talked about party in Estonia – Vibe. The duo became known under the moniker Vibe Residents. Vibe provided DJ Meri and P.Julm opportunity to play alongside artists like Josh Wink, King Britt, Roger Sanchez and more. Their production skills were noticed after remixing Kings Of Tomorrow hit “Finally”. Since then, Simon Dunmore of Defected Records, Roger Sanchez of Stealth and Josh Wink of Ovum are keeping close eyes on the duo.
The first original production as Rulers of The Deep was signed to Ovum. The track named “Track One” was inspired by DJ Dozia’s guest spot at Vibe. ROTD remix road continued with versions of SNS Project “Get Up” and SerJaye “Mahal Kita”. “Mahal Kita” remix rose to number one spot at the almost industry standard DJ Mag Hype Chart.
Next original DJ Meri and P.Julm production was a collaboration with vocalist DragonFly. “Temptation”, produced under the name of Vibe Residents and released as the first release of Roger Sanchez new label Stealth in 2002.
The same year, Ovum released another original production “Dirty Groove”, which was also remixed by David Alvarado. The first issue of the single was sold out copies around the US and forced Ovum to repress.
Rulers of the Deep is known for their remixing skills. Under their belt, ROTD has remixes of chart topping Shakedown “At Night”, IL Padrinos feat. Jocelyn Brown “That’s How Good Your Love Is”, Mood2Swing “Can’t Get Away From You”, Arnold Jarvis “Be Right There”, Craig Jensen “Club Lonely” (Hed Kandi) and C&M Productions feat. Marcel “The Vision” (Neat Music).
The duos latest original releases include the “DJ’s Calling EP” on Stealth Records, “Tallinn Express EP” on Distance and “Elu On Mu Ilu” on Ovum.
In the making is Rulers of the Deep full length album which includes collaborations with Crystal Waters, DragonFly, Marcel, Bryan Chambers, Capitol A and several other artists.
Besides production and dj’ing across the world, DJ Meri and P.Julm have always hosted radioshows on many popular station across Estonia. Today the duo hosts the Friday night mix-show “Tallinn Express”, aired weekly on the national station Raadio 2 (101.6 – 103.6 MHz).
Using the same brand, “Tallinn Express”, DJ Meri and P.Julm also run a monthly club night at Club Tallinn, where they host the main stage the whole night playing various variations of house music including deep, vocal, soulful and also dark and tribal.
