So I'm An Islander
'So I'm An Islander' is a Southern Jutlandic, hobby-based musical project currently located in a small village close to Sønderborg, Denmark. It consists of one member, Søren Nissen Jørgensen, who is originally from the small town of Augustenborg on the island of Als, located in the Baltic Sea. So I'm An Islander was founded in May 2011 in Aarhus, DK, while Søren Nissen Jørgensen attended Aarhus University.
The atmosphere in So I'm An Islander's music can be defined as old, simple, organic, instrumental, mysterious and warm. The genres spans from the neoclassical to the ambient. The universe of the music takes its inspiration from the island of Als and the Southern Jutlandic region. Many of the song titles are written in the Danish dialect, Southern Jutlandic, the dialect spoken in that region. From the start, the music of So I'm An Islander has been free for the public to download, and since So I'm An Islander is an unsigned artist, makes in at non-profitable musical project. Since January 2014, all music by So I'm An Islander has been released under the Common Creative license CC BY SA, which allows people to freely share, distribute, mix and build upon, and commercially use So I'm An Islander's music, while clearly crediting So I'm An Islander as performer and Søren Nissen Jørgensen as the original composer, and lastly, they have to share it under the same license. This opens up for a whole new range of collaboration possibilities.
This has lead to the founding of the media project, SiAi.Skopet, which, among other things, functions as a portfolio of the collaborations between So I'm An Islander and creative people around the world, where the southern jutlandic music has added value to their projects in one way or another. SiAi.Skopet gives people an overview of how the music can be used, freely, in creative projects.
