Vrooom
The music band VROOOM was founded in March 1997 and started its career through live performances in Belgrade, Serbia. From the very beginning the band created under the influence of Balkan folk melodies, cabaret music and contemporary rhythms of western popular music (techno, drum'n'bass, trip-hop, etc.). All these genres are united through a specific sound marked by two vocals, guitar, accordion, fretted and fretless bass, sampling, electronic and acoustic drums and percussion. The band got a wider affirmation by working within THE TORPEDO THEATRE COMPANY where, in performances OVERLAPPING, ANIMAL FARM and ETHNO CIRCUS, VROOOM played their music live. During 1998 and 1999, VROOOM toured, as a music component of THE TORPEDO THEATRE COMPANY or as an independent band, the following places: Switzerland, Slovenia, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Romania, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia, where they participated in most significant music and theatre festivals (INFANT, BELEF, BITEF, Budva - Theatre City Festival, etc.). In 1999 the album TORPEDO MUSIC was produced by the band itself. It is a collection of compositions created for plays for THE TORPEDO THEATRE COMPANY and plays for several institutional theatres. Music from this CD was used in a movie "BELGRADE TOURIST GUIDE 2000", which was awarded the "Belgrade Golden Medallion" as the best Yugoslav short film in 2000 and the "Golden Orange" at the Antalia film festival. The same year VROOOM recorded a new studio album comprising songs from their concert repertory named VENTILATION (issued by the "Felix Records") as well as a live album, "Live in Zurich", sponsored by the Swiss embassy in Belgrade and Zuercher Theater Spektakel. In 2001. VENTILATION reached the stores and the album singles "Dark cave", "Like Adam in the early morning" and a cover of Blondie's "Heart of glass" all did well on the important top 10 singles charts in Serbia and Montenegro. The album promotion started with VROOOM's live appearance on the opening of the Belgrade film festival, FEST 2001. In the next two years the band plays all across Serbia and Montenegro and on most of the important festivals at home and abroad (Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, France, Switzerland). As well as working on applied music (theatre plays: "Danton's death", "The last death of Frenky the Teardrop", "Talking it over", "The Characters", "The Travelers", "The Teeth", "The Safe House", "Who do you trust?", "School";); documentary film: "Pepparkakslandet"; sporting events: "The World Fina Cup" and "Tasmajdan trophy" waterpolo tournaments, "Diamond Ball" international basketball tournament) in 2003. the group started working on the new album, announcing it with a cover version of Sarlo akrobata's classic, "Problem" (issued on a V.A. compilation "Kao da je bilo nekad") and with new videos for the new album singles "Undersense" and "Awakening" which reached No. 1 on almost all the important top 10 video clip charts in Serbia and Montenegro. On 30.05.2005. the new album EVOLUCIJA is released (Mascom in Serbia, Nika records in Slovenia, Menart in Croatia) and the songs from this album repeated the media success of the previous singles („Malo vremena“ hit the first place of MTV Adria top 10 list according to the public voices) and the group won „Davorin Popovic“ price for the best femail vocal on the album in the year of 2005, „The band of the year“ price from the music TV „Metropolis“ and got into top 10 exYU bands according to the regional music TV Balkanmedia.
